New Life
How curious,
As I stood in the dark of the night,
the winter chill weaving it's way
through my body,
my mind soaking in how very stark
the world is at this time of year,
the bare trees, their twigs reaching,
straining beneath the weight of the
unforgiving weather ~
my thoughts turned to a single birds
nest, abandoned by the migration
habits of our avian friends,
clinging solidly to the limb of it's tree,
holding tight through the temptestuous
winter winds,
adhering with determination through
the mighty blizzards,
unrelenting, refusing to let go though
dangerously ladened with the weight
of the snow,
waiting, patiently and with strength
for the return of it's inhabitants,
the return of it's life, it's breath, it's
very reason for existing,
and with the spring, new life will
begin, grow, and learn to fly.
